Dogs Can Read Human Emotions Studies by Researchers

Studies by Researchers at the University of California, Santa Barbara:

Dogs can read human emotions-even more clearly than humans can read dog emotions, say researchers from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Daniel Mills, Jessica Oliva and Caroline Prouvost tested the ability of dogs to recognize human emotions. In their study, each dog watched two video clips of a person who was looking directly at them, such as a happy face or an angry face or scared face. Mills says dogs seem to be able to read these emotions without training. He says "Dogs are very good at picking up human cues so I think it makes sense that they are also sensitive to emotional expressions."

Studies by Researchers at the University of Lincoln:

Two new studies by researchers at the University of Lincoln, UK, suggest that dogs can read human emotions and they use our facial expressions to help them decide whether or not to approach us. The first study shows that dogs are more likely to approach an angry looking human than a happy one. The second study suggests that if a person has his or her eyes closed, dogs know not to disturb them.

Study by the University of Portsmouth:

A study by the University of Portsmouth reveals that dogs can accurately read human emotions, meaning they feel how we feel. The study examined whether man's best friend can tell how we are feeling just by looking at our faces. Dogs have long been known to be great at picking up on human emotions, but until now research hasn't been able to say exactly how they process this information.

Dogs can not only smell, they are also able to pick up on emotions, says new research with the help of dogs. The new study has shown that dogs and humans do not just communicate with words but also by scent. This difference in perception is caused by hormones such as cortisol, adrenaline and other biologically relevant substances which in turn cause our sweat and breath to change accordingly.

Dogs can tell how you feel. This is what two recent studies published in journal Science suggest. Whether it's your tone of voice or the smell of your skin that gives you away, dogs are "so attuned to human beings that they can pick up on very subtle changes in our facial expressions," lead study author Juliane Kaminski, a researcher at the University of Portsmouth in the UK, told LiveScience.

dogs are known to be experts at communicating with their owners. In fact, they can read a human's expression more than two times faster than a human can interpret a dog's body language. After all, the domestication of dogs lasted for thousands of years.

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to understand what your dog wants? But did you know it's not just because you love him? In fact, dogs really do have the ability to understand your emotions. They're also very good at reading people's faces and can tell what we're going to do next. But they can't read our language. They rely on their keen senses of hearing, smell, and sight. For example, if you're screaming at the dog 3 inches away, he can't hear you. But if someone next door stands up when the ice cream truck goes by, he'll know exactly what she's going to order--even though she's a mile away!
